Recently, one of my nieces turned 3 and had a fairy party!
I had the idea about 2 days before the party to make a DIY Insta Photo prop and it was amazingly easy and quick to make. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut vinyl lettering out for the # quotes, but you could achieve the same effect with a stencil and a sharpie!
- A1 Foam Core Board
- Sharp Stanley knife
- Long ruler
- Vinyl in your choice of colour, I used Matte Black
First of all, using my ruler and pencil I measured out a rectangle to cut out to make the “frame”. The “border” was about 7cm thick and the bottom part was about 20cm thick. You can use whichever measurements work best for you.
Next, use your Stanley knife and ruler to cut out the rectangle. Be sure to cut on a surface where it is okay if the knife goes through! You may need to make several cuts before your knife goes all the way through the foam board. Don’t worry if the cut is a little rough, that’s what the sandpaper is for. After you’ve cut out the rectangle, use the sandpaper to smooth down any rough edges and fix any wonky parts.
Now comes the fun part! I designed two vinyl decals in Silhouette Studio and cut them with my Cameo. The font I used was Hollyn, which I purchased from Mighty Deals. Using transfer tape, I transferred the vinyl decals onto the frame and done!
If you don’t have an electronic cutting machine, you could do the same thing with a stencil and a Sharpie, or even hand letter your own sentiment or image with a Sharpie.
The frames were a hit! Everyone at the party had a photo with these frames. I plan on making more for Halloween and Christmas.
